0164 (Driving)
Driving an old Fiat, we were laughing uncontrollably. It had been roughly an hour since we dropped acid, all of this like a fever dream. I was in the passenger seat, smoking cigarettes like a man possessed. Swallowing them whole and throwing up the butts. I opened and closed the window all the time to spit out the fuming-hot remains. Just after finishing a cigarette, I pulled out another one and laughed with pure, devilish glee. The road was curvy and we were driving way too fast, but we didn’t care, as the sun would set either way.
Everyone was talking about something. I was a lull of sound traveling back and forth in this little car. In general, we were way too big for this car, and it seemed like we were constantly growing, like the car was getting smaller and my cigarette-drenched smell was burning holes into its roof.
We were picking up speed. He was grinning while pressing the gas. Everyone was going mad. It started to rain and he said, "you know what, let’s go swimming," and then parked the car with one brutally abrupt motion. I was choking on the seatbelt cutting into my throat, throwing up even more butts. I hated swimming. I couldn't smoke while swimming, so I waited outside. The acid slowly kicking in, I was laughing in a state of total delirium. Feral, guttural laughs from the belly. Loud barks, like wild dogs unleashed. I was feeling hot. I don’t know why, but we were all naked. Her body was nothing but hair and mine tiny and oily. That was when we drove further down this narrow path in our little car. I think we may have been in Italy or Portugal, I don’t really know. But there were trees everywhere, and in general everyone was naked. Suddenly, I started feeling shiveringly cold, pain in my bones, my eyes red as a poppy. I puked and everyone saw the divine. I felt like making love, but of course the car was too small. We were all rolling on the floor laughing. It’s good I brought my camera, because it was the only way to be sober. The clouds started pressing down on us and we got angry, her particularly. She pulled her bow out of her pocket and charged it with lightning. The anger embedded in her face, belly, and legs.
Standing firm and strong, blade and shield in hand covering her back, the owls were following us. I got a call from an old friend and had to drop my weapons.
What a foolish being I was. It was at that moment that I tripped backwards over the roots of the olive trees. Everyone knew the danger of olive trees.
Now we got into this Italian restaurant, all hungry and everything. Everyone ordered a few pizzas and sodas. There were scratches and wilderness all over our bodies, and the air around us was vibrating. We didn’t pay and climbed through the bathroom windows. It had been quite a while since I’d smoked, which is why I was devouring another cigarette. I had these long, thin ones, the ones that look like the bones of dead witches’ fingers. The smoke curling around the topography of my lips, my eyes still red like a poppy, I had an idea.
We could stretch very far and connect on the other side of the planet. Like stretch, and stretch, and stretch even further until our fingers met again, everyone only having to stretch roughly one third of the Earth’s circumference.
They thought I was brilliant, but we forgot that we had just eaten, and we were tired. He was sleeping on the roof of the car, I was sleeping in the passenger seat, and she was sleeping next to the river. The moon was smiling and the sun was happy we had finally found the age to be alive.
The next morning, the fever had left our blood. We were cuddling, and the car was still too tiny for us.
